Can't sign on ichat tonight?

When i went onto my i chat tonight... which i got on everynight... all of a sudden it signed on.. said i was available with the little green dot next to my name.. but when the window that is supposed to hold all the screen names opened... there are no names listed whatsoever... and it wont allow me to recieve or send ims to them WHAT TO DO??
