I a fool but need info..for playstation one?

I bought a Japan game and ..duh...it won't play on my playstation one, says 'insert format disk'. is there any way, anything I can do/buy to make it play? woe is me-I love this game and can't find it reasonably priced anywhere, didn't notice it said Japan game till after I bought it.
