I had a 4ft Diamond Back Rattle Snake in my yard last week. What can I do to deter snakes?

I live in Florida, so I expect snakes, but I would like to discourage the poisoneous ones from coming in my yard. Thankfully, the dogs went wild barking, so we knew it was there. I would hate for one of the kids to come upon one, or even my dogs to get bit. I heard that moth works. Is this true????
