Is Money Awarded for Pain & Suffering through the Courts considered earned income?

I am on disability for a back injury and receive a monthly check from social security (which I paid into many many years). If I receive a monetary award for a non related injury issue, is that considered earned income and will it effect my disability payments? I live in New York State. Is anyone informed about this? Please let me know. Thanks
