What is an interactive, loving type of bird?

My atiel Sammy just recently ped away by choking, i think, but i'm not really sure. He just started breathing funny, then within two minutes of him breathing weird he collapsed dead. I'm thirteen, and my mom won't let me get something too expensive, what kind of bird should I get? Thanx for any response!
